I've never had the opportunity to be within driving distance of the path of totality of a solar eclipse, so I couldn't pass this up. Friends and I drove from Ottawa to Kingston and onto the ferry to Wolfe Island. A few weeks earlier I had scouted for some good compositions that used the wind turbines as strong foreground objects in wide angle shots. Due to cloud cover none of the wide shots really turned out well enough to see the partial sun, too much scatter. As totality approached the cloud cover was getting heavier so we quickly put the gear in the car and the car in gear and headed down the road to pick a different location with no time to scout alternatives. At least the cloud was a bit thinner where we stopped. The images here are a mix of the two locations, but with totality at the second stop, and all but one with the 400mm lens and cropped in Lightroom. Again, due to the high cloud it isn't possible to bring out any detail in the corona, the diamond ring, and Bailey's Beads; we are likely looking primarily at scatter in these photos. I was pleasantly surprised that the prominences are quite apparent. The light on the land at totality is quite amazing, but I didn't really capture it properly. Next time...
